My father being a veterinarian and keen wildlife enthusiast, the natural world has always been a major part of my life, whether looking for newts in the garden or watching lions in the Serengeti. From an early age, my passion for wildlife was stoked by the work of great wildlife photographers such as Stephen Dalton, Art Wolfe and Frans Lanting. However, it was only after my compact Vivitar died on a 1998 expedition to Tanzania that I bought my first SLR, a second-hand Pentax P50 (from my dad). Photography quickly became a serious hobby. I am particularly interested in animal behaviour and the relationship between animals and their environment, and am increasingly attempting to capture these in unusual ways, to get beyond documentation. My pictures have been published in a variety of books and magazines and I am a contributor to Alamy Images. I have a BSc in Zoology from Cardiff University and a MRes in Primatology from the University of Surrey. I have worked on wildlife research projects and expeditions in Tanzania, Madagascar, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Vietnam, Cambodia and Scotland. I am currently studying for a PhD at Cardiff University, where I am investigating the impact of climate change on long-distance migratory birds. You can read more about this research project at http://www.adamseward.co.uk/Research.htm. Equipment: Many of the pictures on this site were taken with Pentax manual SLRs (MZM and P50) with Fuji Provia and Fuji Velvia film. I have been shooting digital since 2006 and my kit now consists of the following: Canon
EOS 1D MkIII Manfrotto
055ProB tripod + 488RC4 ball head |
